[PINE TREE] Mung Bean Starch - 500g is Pine Brand (Ton Son, Thai for pine tree) mung bean starch from Thailand, made by Sitthinan Co., Ltd. The maker sells this 500 g bag as its dessert starch, known in Thailand as salim (sarim) starch; the plain native starch that factories use for glass noodles is a different product. Cooked with water, the white powder turns clear, glossy and springy, then sets into a soft jelly as it cools. Use it for sarim (cooked starch pressed into strands and served in coconut syrup), khanom chan (steamed layer cake, similar to Vietnamese banh da lon), jellies, tago (two-layer cups topped with coconut cream) and lod chong (pandan jelly drops in coconut milk); the maker also lists cookies and tarts.

Gói 500 g này là loại tinh bột hãng bán để làm chè, bánh, ở Thái quen gọi là bột salim (sa-rim); loại tinh bột nhà máy dùng làm miến là một sản phẩm khác. Nấu với nước, bột trắng chuyển sang trong, bóng, dai, để nguội thì đông lại thành thạch mềm. Dùng làm sợi sa-rim (bột nấu chín ép thành sợi, ăn với nước đường cốt dừa), khanom chan (bánh hấp nhiều lớp, na ná bánh da lợn), thạch, tago (bánh hai lớp phủ nước cốt dừa) và bánh lọt (lod chong); hãng còn gợi ý làm bánh quy, bánh tart.
