Description
A bamboo sushi rolling mat (makisu) is the simplest way to get an even, tight roll. The slats bend around the filling and let you apply steady pressure along the whole length, which is what stops a roll from falling apart when you slice it. It is the standard tool for maki sushi and works just as well for Korean kimbap or a rolled omelette.
- Type: sushi rolling mat (makisu)
- Material: bamboo slats bound with cotton string
- Use for: maki sushi, kimbap, rolled omelette, vegetable rolls
How to use: Lay the mat flat with the slats running horizontally. Place the nori and rice on it, leaving a clear border at the far edge, add the filling, then lift the near edge and roll away from you, pressing gently as you go. Wrapping the mat in cling film first keeps rice from sticking and makes cleaning easier.
Care: Rinse under running water and wipe clean immediately after use, then stand it up to air dry fully before storing. Do not leave it soaking, and do not put it in a dishwasher.
